In the marine topic data on following issues are collected and processed: quality of transitional, coastal and marine waters, oceanographic and hydrographic data, data regarding hazardous and harmful algal blooms, sea bathing water quality, marine pollution caused by maritime transport, , invasive species, marine pollution incidents and interventions against accidental marine pollution, and other important data for monitoring quality and pressures on the marine environment and coastal areas, including the relevant spatial data and information on infrastructure as well as data on marine and coastal area protection policy.
In addition to that, data on condition and exploitation of seabed and state of coastal areas in terms of protection against usurpation are also being monitored.
Based on data collected in close collaboration with national competent institutions and authorities for monitoring of these data sets, reporting on state of marine environment is done.
In accordance with the intended purpose of the reports, they are presented on the national and international level and to the general public as well.
Reporting on state of marine environment is done by means of indicators and preparation and/or coordinating the preparation of thematic reports and other reports on state of the environment (report on state of environment in marine water is integral part).
Reporting on the state of marine environment on the European level is carried out by participating in the work of relevant working groups of the European Topic Centre on Inland, coastal and marine water and working groups for reporting pursuant to the Water Directives of the European Commission. Reports on marine environment status, in accordance with other international engagements, also includes collection of reports and their integration in Central Data Repository (CDR Croatia) .
In cooperation with responsible institutions and within Environmental Information System (EIS), databases are being developed and integrated in the Marine Information System, that collects, processes and displays data on marine. The system is being harmonized with Water Information System for Europe (WISE).
