Air is a gaseous mixture surrounding our planet. Air forms the atmosphere that separates us from the cold space and vacuum, protects us from pernicious cold and from the lethal radiation of the Sun. Without air there would be no life on our planet.

Consequences of pollutant air emissions include not only change in air quality, but also direct change in climate and depletion of the ozone layer. The Croatian Environment Agency (CEA) collects data on air emissions and uses them for setting up of a central Environmental Information System (EIS) for the Republic of Croatia.

Indicator is observed value representative of a phenomenon to study. In general, indicators quantify information by aggregating different, discrete and periodical measurement data to obtain a numerically representative value. The resulting information is therefore synthesised. 

Which are the projects carried out  under the  air topic? What is their contribution? Which projects are completed and which ongoing?

The Environmental Protection Act (Official Gazette 82/94, 128/99) specifies the relevant environmental documents: The Environmental Protection Strategy, the Environmental Protection Programs and the State of the Environment Reports for Croatia.

Interest groups in environmental protection sector are professional and scientific groups and organisations dealing with topics of air, water, soil, waste, climate change, etc, and the related projects.

The Constitution of the Republic of Croatia determines that «nature conservation and environmental protection … are the highest values of the constitutional order of the Republic of Croatia «. Also, the Republic of Croatia ensures to its citizens a right to sound environment.

Overall physico-chemical and geological processes on the planet Earth and in its atmosphere could be seen as a sort of «machine» controlling the climate system. For millions of years, since the planet's creation, a fine balance has been established between all the factors contributing to the process.
